"Like a hair-tie or a gas station receipt" by Kit Steitz

Make me a bookmark.

You can leave me

folded in, forgotten,

because one woman’s trash is

another woman’s bookmark.

And I will spread

bright pages wide

for the careful, the attentive,

for the gentle hands

that can find me.

Kit Steitz is a queer, non-binary poet in Columbia, Missouri where they live with their chosen family. They most enjoy writing poems while fending off slobbering, overgrown puppies and geriatric cats. Their work has appeared in The Ivy Review, Moist Poetry Journal, the lickity~split, and JAKE.  You can find their neurospicy-fueled ramblings @kitikins.bsky.social
